If I allow myself to be diagnosed with Paranoid Schizophrenia or PPD will I still be able to use Criminology? |
Sorry the question wasn't worded very well but I was running out of text. What I want to know is if I allow myself to be diagnosed with Paranoid Schizophrenia or PPD, will I still be able to pursue my desire to work as either a forensic scientist or a homicide detective? Please don't answer unless you know what you are talking about. I'm not a complete expert on this, but this is what I know based on my PSY 202 course, and general knowledge of the law: Hi Violet, if you are suffering from paranoid schizophrenia and have positive symptoms... diagnosis is a must. However you will have to inform any employer for the rest of your life of your illness and they will call you in for a medical examination. It may inhibit job oppurtunities, but there are brilliant minds that suffer mental illness, there are beautiful mind's also, remember the film with Russell Crow? What is important is your personal safety and wellbeing, not your career. Peace and love. I wouldn't know, but I would think that if you are diagnosed, are being treated and are responsible enough to take meds, keep up with other needed therapy and your general mental health-can they really discriminate. But I do know that my brother before he became a cop had to take a psychological test. Maybe you could contact a college that teaches that and talk with a professor who would be able to help you with that. I don't understand how you can "allow" yourself to be diagnosed. But, to answer your question, your mental health might come into question if your symptoms were uncontrolled. But, if you have a long history of treatment and successful control of your symptoms, that would work in your favour. No, I dont think your career goals will be attainable .... |
