Is it possible to have sinusitis without a fever?

I have no idea what I had this past week exactly, but I am 15 weeks pregnant and was getting migraines almost every day. Then I started getting these unusual headaches that seemed to disappear when I would lie down, but with moving, it was a pounding sensation in just one side (its definitely different from any migraine I have ever had). Anyway, so a couple of days later, my throat is sore. Only at certain times during the day, though. I have no congestion, no runny nose or any symptom that alarmed me. I usually know when I am running a fever, and I felt great besides having the headaches and sore throat (hardly bothersome, I give it a 4 at the most).

I went and seen my doctor yesterday and they did a swab to check for strep. That came back negative and they said it was just sinus drainage.

Does this sound likely?

Yes. You can have infected sinuses without fever. The sinuses drain from the nasopharynx to the back of your throat, which can cause inflammation or even spread infection to the throat. Often the only symptom of the sinus infection is headache or toothache. So it does make sense.

Yes, it can happen. It happens to me all the time and it is a pain in the bum. Once you have your baby, ask your dr to put you on some allergy meds that can dry up some of the drainage. If you aren't breastfeeding that is. Stayhist has helped me a lot. Good luck

lack of fever is a good sign. if that changes go to the doctor. he's going to tell you to take tylenol more than likely. it's safe for pregnant women.

Sounds possible.
Did they rule out hormonal triggers?

i don't know

I absolutely think you can have a sinus infection without a fever...in fact both my husband and I had one in November, both with no fever.

On another note, I too suffer from migraines. If you have allergies, they too can cause congestion and end up in migraine. After suffering from migraines my whole life I got allergy test last year and found out that I am allergic to pretty much every plant on earth (hehe...seriously though). So, if you think you have allergies they could be a catalyst for the migraines. And if you live in a climate where things are blooming all year (if you are allergic to plants) or the climate you are in is changing that could affect your allergies, sinus and headache. For example, the past couple of weeks I have been getting more sinus congestion and not surprising, migraines! I've been taking clariton and that helps. But I know you are pregnant and you should probably check with a doc before taking anything.

Sorry this is so long...but last note...another trigger for congestion and migraines for me is hormones. I've never been pregnant but I would imagine your hormones are doing whacky things right now and that could also be a trigger.

BTW: Congratulations on your pregnancy...I hope you and baby do very well!! =)
