Tips on how to comfort people when they are stressed/mad/sad? |
I'm really bad at comforting people. I just don't know what to say to them to make them feel better! They have even told me I'm bad at comforting them. They've already told me what was wrong, and i still didn't know what to say to them! I have a hard time being comforting to people because I don't wear my heart on my sleeve. So when someone is stressed/upset, try to take down the walls that protect your sensitive side. Also, just try to understand. They might not necessarily want a hug or for you to say "everything will be ok". Sometimes it helps if you just try to understand them. Ya know? It's kinda like the whole "I don't want you to answer what I say because I'm venting and all I want you to do it listen" type of thing. So, there are 3 ways to look at it. You could simply say everything will be ok and give them a hug, you could try to break down the walls and try to push out your sincerity ( make sure its not fake) or simply listen. Be sensitive and don't ask them what is wrong or tell me whats wrong. They might not want to tell you. Just be there for them and do things that woudl make them feel better. Like go out to eat and try to make them relax and then they will tell you whats wrong and that woudl make them feel better if they're stressed, lighten the mood...don't place any decision on them. Give them a HUG! and say don't be mad/sad be Glad lol... Try to make them laugh, as the say "laughter is the best medicine!" What would you want to hear if you were stressed/mad/sad? |
