My gram is 85 and had a TIA (mini stroke ) yesterday. her DR said cuz she didn't go to ER he could do nothing?

I WAS WONDERING IF ANYONE HAS EVER HEARD OF SUCH A CRAZY THING? SHOULD'NT HE BE RUNNING SOME KIND OF BLOOD TEST OR DOING A CT SCAN? PLEASE HELP I CAN'T SIT AND DO NOTHING, SHE IS THE GREATEST LOVE IN MY LIFE(OTHER THAN MY FAMILY) SO ANY INFO WOULD BE GREAT!!! THANKS

The doc is correct...as wierd as it sounds after an hour or two the drugs they give patients for this condition no longer have any useful effect and any damage that was to occur has already happened so there is not much to do...also your gram may already be on some heart medictaion for blood pressure or warfarin for some other reason thus no other treatment would have been on any benefit.
TIA's are only short lived and do not usually cause any long term problems..

A transient ischemic attack (TIA) is focal brain ischemia producing sudden neurologic deficits that last < 1 h. Diagnosis is clinical. Carotid endarterectomy, antiplatelet drugs, and warfarin decrease risk of stroke after certain types of TIA.
TIAs do not show changes on CT or MRI scans. (Small strokes do show changes on such tests.)Because symptoms and signs may have completely disappeared by the time one gets to the hospital, a diagnosis of a TIA may be made on a person's medical history alone.
The goal of the treatment is to improve the blood supply to the brain and prevent a stroke from occurring. Underlying disorders such as high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes, and blood disorders, should be treated appropriately.
Blood thinners, such as aspirin, may be prescribed to reduce blood clotting. Others include dipyridamole, clopidogrel, Aggrenox or heparin, Coumadin, or other similar medications. Treatment may be continued for an indefinite time period.
