Cheng Man-Chi'ing and Tai-Chi?

I currently tried to get a book, and I was lucky enough to get a book on Tai Chi. The book was authored by Chen Man-Ch'ing. Can someone tell me personally, what do you guys think of his for of Tai Chi Ch'uan?

Well.... It's a mixed bag. But I like him as one of my own references.

He's one of the pioneers in bringing Tai Chi Chuan to the West. He has some very good thoughts on the practice of Tai Chi and the Tao.

The book he co-authored with Robert Smith is the first book I worked from in learning his 37 posture form. Still practice it today.

One criticism some have is that his approach to real combat isn't genuine. There may be some merit to this IF you try to copy his demonstrations as a form of self defense.

However, there is a good book, "There Are No Secrets" by Wolfe Lowenthal. Excellent book for understanding Cheng Man-Ching's philosophy about Tai Chi Chuan, self defense, and about life.

It's good to get different perspectives on an art. You never know who holds the key to YOUR understanding of the art.
