Tai-Chi, I want to learn?

Hello,

i'm a 16 year old (turned at april 25th) and after that i felt like its time for me to grow up and enter the adult world. Anyway, i've done stuff i will never have thought off when i was younger, such as building a pc (dismantling it then rebuilding it, and hopefully with parents permission can build a sick pc by summer holidays), REVISE FOR MY GCSES, and i seem to look at life more...openly =]

Anyway, i was reading a GAP YEAR magazine, and i was thinking of going to china, bei jing. Of couse its still 2 years away, but if i also go on holidays, i can go to summer school, study mandarin, and learn tai-chi/ shaolin! Makes sense since i'm chinese (BBC- British Born Chinese), and i feel like its my ...duty :)

anyway, i live in south yorkshire, and there are little or no tai-chi masters near where i live, and i can't drive and i dont want to push my parents too hard since they work and come home late at night.

i was wondering, is there a free site, a source, like youtube (not soo good i tell you) where i can take tai-chi step by step, from beginner to expert moves =]

i dont care how long it takes...i want to relax my mind, before the GCSEs, and focus.

also i have a diet plan going >.< i weigh 188 lbs (5ft 10) and now i weigh 170-173 after 6 weeks of jogging:) if ur interested at my routine just reply and i'll edit it here =]

thanks for reading

though i'd add that i'm not a violent person ^.^ i play the piano, grade 6 woohoo, and i've done several other martial arts before- Tae kwon do, Wing Chun, and i think another called Dragon Kung Fu =/

:)

It's difficult to learn without solid instruction....

However, look up Erle Montaigue on YouTube (channel name is "moontagu" I believe) or at www.taijiworld.com.

He offers a lot of free information on Taijiquan including a whole series of videos where he teaches the Yang Cheng-fu Taiji form, basic push hands, and other good information. Another plus is he seems to spend quite a bit of time in the UK and you may find him or someone in his network who are not so far from you.

Hope that helps.

Be well.

(I will warn you.... Some traditionalists find him a little controversial.)

There are alot of styles of tai chi out there. Do some research on tai chi first and then make sure you find a good sifu that knows what they are talking about. I just started taking Chen tai chi in january. Chen tai chi is the original tai chi its alot harder to learn but you cab definately use it for self defense. My sifu's sifu has a school in manchester. I have no idea if thats near you but his website is www.wanghaijun.com .
