I have been practicing Tai Chi and meditating. I have noticed I am more sensitive to co-workers' high stress?

and it bothers me more. Any advice?

The practise of Taiji (or Tai Chi) and meditation increases your awareness, and the stress and strains that your colleagues suffer that might not have been so obvious before suddenly become very clear because of your new level of awareness.

As you're human you'll have an emotional reaction to the stress as you don't want it. So the sensitivity to other people's stress is perfectly normal, and is actually a very good sign that you are progressing.

As your awareness deepens, you will become aware of the intricacies of your own emotional reactions to other people's stress, and how you do not have to participate in their stress or their drama. You can watch it happen as something outside of you. When you reach this stage (and you're not far off it by the sounds of things - you're already aware of your sensitivity) people's stress will cease to affect you.

My advice would be to become aware of HOW you're getting affected by other people. Do you tense up? Do you get angry? What are your triggers? Is it specific people, or a specific type of stress? Use the awareness to figure out the triggers, and whilst you cannot avoid them, you can recognise them when they happen and choose not to get emotionally involved.

Hope it helps, well done and good luck. Do email me if you've got any questions. taijipedia@gmail.com
