Teen dating questions: crushes and mental health? |
Context: I'm 14 and have never had a romantic relationship, nor have most of my friends, so I don't have much perspective. I would say that it's absolutely fine to have crushes on other people. Some people will criticise that and tell me that it's cheating, but it's not like you make a conscious decision to have a crush on someone. If you were to act on it, then yes, there would be a problem, but in order to do that you would have to actively decide to cheat. I am a few years older than you, and have been with my boyfriend for several years. I do have crushes on other people, and he knows this. However, we are completely honest with each other, and he trusts me not to act on my feelings for anyone else. Some people fall in love and then for them that person eclipses all others. Others, like myself, will fall in love time and time again - it is my lot to learn to deal with these feelings without causing pain to myself, my significant other, or my crushes. yes, that is leading them on. yes! |
