How would I know if my son has a urinary tract infection? How likely is it? |
My son has been very sick the past couple days and we have been in and out of the dr.'s office. He is finally on an antibiotic and feeling better. Part of the problem was the diarrhea causing an awful diaper rash, which was causing him so much pain. It is almost gone now, but he still screams when i change his diaper and it looks like he is trying to hold his pee-pee. How do I know? What can I do? Should the antibiotic for his ear clear up any infection, including a uti? By the way, he is 15 mos old. the only way to know for sure if he has it is taking him to the dr. there are different antibiotics that treat UTI's. You could also take him to the ER and they can place a baggie around his personal area that will catch any urine. It gets placed in the diaper when you put it on. Do you notice him crying any other time other then when you change him? Keep an eye on him and see if when he pees if he is acting any differently. Honestly how much water are you giving the baby per day... A bottle is not enough... Does the baby wipes you use have ALCOHOL in it. If so they are burning him every time you clean him up. Use a warn wet soft cloth instead to clean his bottom. Let him air dry if possible, if not lightly pat his bottom dry. Do not rub his bottom if would also make him uncomfortable. One of our grandsons had a problem which required surgery to correct. Grandma noticed his diaper was always damp, never really wet.It was because there was a blockage and urine could only dribble through. There was the possibility of serious infection taking place and the doctor recognized there was a problem when he was told about this. Don't wait! Get him to a pediatrician ! He is trying to hold his pee because he has figured out that when he goes, it hurts his bottom where the rash is. The antibiotic will clear up the infection of UTI if he has it. Keep putting something like Diaper Doo on the rash area so it will protect his bottom from the acid in the pee. if he is circumsized then there is no chance for an infection, thats what the dr. told me. The antibiotic should clear it up. If not then another trip to the doc might be in the near future. good luck! Urinary infections are very common, some of the symptoms are pains when doing the toilet, inability to fully empty the bladder and blood in urine |
